 Why do road bikes have thin tire? 

they have thin tires because to lessen the pressure on the road and it also helps the biker to lighten the pedal in order to get faster. it made the bike faster because of the lightness and the less pressure on the ground. for decades bike tire has been adjusting to 19mm to 23 mm till 25 mm they try to see what is the right tire to be an aerodynamic, a 

why do mountain bikes have fat tires? 

they have fat tires because they need to balance into a rocky road if you have a thin tire to a mountain you have a big chance that you get injured.  and also one of the reasons mountain bikes have fat tires is because it contacts the grounds and less pressure it gives. 

tires are made out of rubber, this makes it perfect for a rocky surface but thin tires are smooth and its only capable of riding on the road.
