Social Studies | Picking up Rubbish

Hi, For today we have done some picking ups some rubbish. we did this on our school grounds, we mainly saw a lot of rubbish in the od court area. and close to the music room. I can imagine the amount of rubbish we found in just minutes. I wanted you to know that picking up some rubbish will help our involvement better. picking up rubbish isn't that bad at all, it actually really fun. I was really happy with what I did today. I feel like our school environment is much better when I saw the rubbish we took.

I recommend doing it too, it's not bad picking up some rubbish even when you just saw a small piece of rubbish you should put it to the bin this actually helps the environment.

Metals and Oxygen

Aim: to make metal oxide and observe the difference in the properties of the product compared to the reactants.

Equipment: a piece of magnesium, bunsen burner, safety glasses metal scissor tongs.

Method

  1. Light your Bunsen burner.
  2. Hold your magnesium in the scissor tongs. ensure you are holding onto this very tip of the magnesium.
  3. Place the other end magnesium into the Bunsen flame ( at the top of the blue flame ).
  4. When the magnesium begins to burn do not look directly at it, as it light emitted permanently damages your eyes.
Result: I saw how these metals ignited into the light. I can only look at this for a couple of seconds or otherwise, this may permanently damage my eyes.

Discussion: this happens because of the magnesium, when magnesium gets hot, the metal will turn into a hot light. it also because of the strong flame that we use.

Conclution: yes, this works. this works as I think of it, I wouldn't change a thing about what we did in this experiment. this was a fun experiment I would like to do it again.

Pop test

Aim: To show that hydrogen gas is produced when a metal reacts with acid.

Equipment: A test tube, bunsen burner, wooden splint, a bottle of acid, a piece of metal, safety glasses.

Method

  • light you bunsen burner
  • add your sample of metal t your tube. add 2 mL of acid.
  • carefully invert the boiling tube above the test tube containing the metal and acid (as shown in the diagram below).
Test for Gases - EleviseResult: the result is very surprising, it pops that's why the title of this experiment is the pop test. I saw how the pops happen. it is very cool it smokes after the pops happen.

Discussion: it happens because of the hydrogen gas. this makes the pop sound because of the gas in it we trap it in the test tube so we can make the popping sound.

Concussion:  yes, it did work. I wouldn't change anything in this experiment, I think that this experiment went really well.

the Vietnam war song

on this topic, we have to select music that related to the Vietnam war. and we have to select a song that is related to the song that makes the war stops.

the song that I picked is Give Peace a Chance.

what is the message of the song? the message of the song is that we give peace a chance because at that time the Vietnam war is one of the devastating wars in the entire world. so if we give peace a chance we might stop the war, and that happens. giving peace to the world will make this earth a better planet for every human living.

Beatles - Let it be

What is the song about? : The song is about Paul McCartney's Mother saying to him "let it be", these are the words of her mother in his dream. and he thinks that it's a sign that they would bring back the band together again. so that's what they did and made this song titled let it be.  this was the last song they made. the purpose of this song is that you leave the problems behind and move on in life.

What is the difference between the 1960s to 2021 songs? the difference between the 1960s most song is pop-rock. pop-rock is the most popular song in the 1960s, but the Beatles have overcome this and they were the most popular rock band in the world. but the difference between the other music is that they are not talking about people. but these guys change the music industry. they change this because they use to attract people to their songs, and talk about girls and stuff. no one has overcome their hit.

Indicators

Aim: To make acid-base indicators using everyday substances.

Equipment:

  • Red cabbage
  • Tea
  • Beetroot
  • Turmeric
  • Cranberry juice
  • A beaker
  • Water
Method:

Task One:

  1. You now have five beakers, each containing a different indicator.
  2. Using a pipette, place 5 mL of the cabbage indicator into two test tubes.
  3. Add 5 mL of HCI (Acid) to one test tube and 5 mL of NaOH (Alkali) to the other test tube.
  4. Record the changes in the table below.
  5. Clean the test tubes and repeat for the Beetroot, Tea, Cranberry, and Turmeric indicators.

Discussion: For this experiment, we didn't use any burners. because our room is a classroom it's not a science room. so we found not to use any burners. but it still works and uses all of this to see if it's a base or an acid.

Conclusion: the experiment works. it was really fun, especially with my friends I'm working with. we were just having fun experimenting this indicator.
